Craig Ouellette grew up in Denver, Colorado and Dallas, Texas. He graduated with honors from the University of Iowa and studied directing with Judith Weston in Los Angeles. He is the writer/director of more than 25 short films, most in the horror, thriller and action genres. Collectively, they have over 80 million views and 100,000+ subscribers YouTube, have played numerous festivals and won many awards including "Best Director" "Grand Prize" “Best Horror Short”, “Best Thriller Short”, "Best Screenplay Short", and the "Bad Muther F*cker" award.
His multi-award winning queer horror romance "Straight On Till Morning" has had a worldwide festival run and will be coming out in theatrically, online and on DVD/BLU RAY in spring of 2026.
His newest short "$TRIP" (aka: STRIP) was selected for ScreamboxTV's Bloody Bites short film series, as well as a daily pic and selection premiere on www.FilmShortage.com.
Always supportive of fellow creatives, Craig co-produced the award winning feature “Ball of Wax” with bestselling author Daniel Kraus ("The Shape of Water", "Trollhunters", "Whalefall"). Craig served as director of photography & editor on the feature “I Was A Teenage Wereskunk” (available on Amazon), and co-produced/co-director of photography on the feature “Washerwoman” (Tubi, Apple, Amazon).
When his Mom was diagnosed with cancer, Craig captured much of her year-long ordeal on video. The resulting feature “The Closer She Gets” was accepted into Slamdance, won best documentary feature at the Zero Film Festival has over 1,100,000 views online and has been used by hospice care professionals to help families cope with their own cancer journeys.
In addition to film, Craig is an avid traveler. He has been to 40+ countries, all 50 states and attended Burning Man 5 times and counting. He always finds inspiration in the uniqueness of other places and cultures. He blogs about it at www.CraigoTravels.com.
